Futurehealth Plenary Talk by Senia Maymin Have you ever wondered how to keep employees interested in and engaged in their jobs? Are you yourself sometimes bored or detached from your work? Here we examine three techniques to increase employee engagement - whether you're the employee or the employer.
We will discuss in detail 1) Strengths, 2) Flow, and 3) Optimism as three factors that can increase your job enjoyment and decrease turnover at companies. Using your Strengths at work is one of two components most correlated to job satisfaction. How can people use their strengths most at work? How can you do more of that which you do best? The psychological state of Flow and engagement with the task at hand, sometimes to the point of being oblivious to surroundings, is a state many employers seek to capture. What conditions at work most contribute to achieving this state of flow? How does Optimism differ as an explanatory style for good and bad events? When is optimism not the answer? Sometimes, flexibility and accuracy are needed to keep optimism in check. How can you most increase optimism at work?
