Breath Training * Respiratory Biofeedback * Cardiovascular Biofeedback * CardioRespiratory Training Respiratory Sinus Arhythmia / RSA Training * Heart Rate Variability HRV Training Call it any of the above-- the use of breath-driven heart rate training is hot!! And for good reason. The medical reserach on heart rate variability is solid and deep. The twist biofeedback adds is self regulation. Respiratory Sinus Arhythmia (RSA) Biofeedback Training was developed in Russia, by Alexander Smetankin's Biosvyaz-- a private company allowed to incorporate before the break-up of the former Soviet Union. The deal they made with the communist leaders was th ey had to open a free clinic in Leningrad (now St. Petersberg) for children. The main biofeeback modality they offered was RSA training. Ankit Chander, an engineering science major at Penn
State, has studied heart rate variability since last summer. "What is
interesting," he says, "is that this field, on numerous occasions, has
been shown to be a significant indicator of health. The first time this was
recognized was in 1965, when two obstetricians realized that fetal mortality was
highly cor-related with how metronome-like the fetus's heart rate was. The more
metronome-like it was, the less likely the fetus was to make it. So when
you" One theme has run through my work for the past 40 plus years-- a desire to play a role in waking people up, raising their consciousness and empowering them. |
