Documentary film OPERATION: Emotional Freedom offers "The Answer" for treating veterans with PTSD
By Joan Brunwasser
This is the first feature-length documentary on energy psychology and along with featuring many of the preeminent practitioners in EP including Gary Craig, the founder of EFT and Carol Look, PhD the film is being sold and shown worldwide in over 30 countries. On July 21st the film was included in a presentation to the House of Representatives Committee on Veterans' Affairs.

My guest today is Eric Huurre, director of Skywriter Communications and an award-winning producer with over thirty years under his belt. Welcome to Futurehealth, Eric. I'd like to talk with you about your latest project, OPERATION: Emotional Freedom - The Answer. Please tell our readers a bit about this documentary.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your questions about OPERATION: Emotional Freedom The Answer.
The
documentary feature-length film and the other videos that will result
are my effort to build awareness of energy psychology and its
applications. Since first finding EFT and other energy techniques, I've
been documenting their application in many places around the world
including working with the orphans survivors of the genocide in Rwanda,
Africa; to a pediatric cancer ward in Oaxaca, Mexico. Needless to say,
what I witnessed with my cameras has impressed me to share these stories
with the world.
Profiling PTSD and trauma victims among
volunteer combat veterans and how they would respond to EFT was another
application that struck me as a high visibility way to bring this
important tool to the interested public. Teaming up with Gary Craig and a
small team of dedicated practitioners to work with veterans has been a
two and a half year effort. Phase one was the therapy itself. Phase two
was an extensive follow-up with the veterans in the film. Would the
healing they experienced hold? How would life become different for them
and their families? What this project has proven and what I hope my film
illustrates is yet another positive, irrefutable example of how energy
psychology can help where other interventions have failed to make a
significant difference.
What has also been important is to be
seen as promoting something that is complementary to other protocols and
care givers. It is easy today to create controversy and to criticize
the work of others. As a filmmaker, my own goals to entertain and
attract attention needed to be put into check to help explain and spread
a message that looks to unite, not divide. I am proud of what the
documentary reveals and how it does that without resorting to alienating
important allies. In a world of often bad news, OPERATION: Emotional
Freedom The Answer does offer a positive answer.
Now that the
film is in circulation among the therapy community, the next step is to
promote this story among the wider veteran's and interested health care
and public communities. A fall launch of a formal publicity campaign and
outreach effort is planned. Meanwhile, I am fielding questions and
sending out DVDs wherever there is an expression of interest. People
from all over the world are finding that this story offers hope and
solutions beyond the needs of PTSD-affected combat veterans. It's a case
of "if this can work for something as severe and entrenched as wartime
PTSD, it can likely help me and my clients, too." That was always my
goal. To show the technique while attracting interest through the
pressing need for solutions to caring for hundreds of thousands of
servicemen and women.
The film's official website
is constantly updated to reflect events and stores relating to this
project. On the site are trailers from the film so that people can sense
what this story contains. I invite everyone who is interested in energy
healing or cares about veteran's health care to consider supporting our
efforts. Share the story with others and you will be helping to bring
awareness to the epidemic that is PTSD among veterans and their families
while offering a practical solution.
What exactly is energy psychology/EFT and where did they come from?
Well, I'm a film producer, not a trained therapist, so my answers are purely from personal observation.
That
said, energy psychology is the use of the body's innate energy to
affect changes in health and healing. Einstein proved that everything is
really just energy, so if you want to affect a change you have to
change an object's energy. EFT comes from that truth and borrows from
Chinese acupuncture, using the body's energy points to access and
rebalance blocked energy that leads to ill health.
Gary Craig and
others developed "touch" techniques to do what acupuncture needles do
and combined it with affirmations, or positive statement and questions
about physical and emotional issues. Medicines, surgeries and other
"traditional" health care protocols treat symptoms, not the energetic
root causes of any issue. That is why drugs, in particular, are
typically not effective in the long term while energy psychology, if
fully applied, eliminates the core energy imbalances that led to the
physical and emotional issues that show up as pain, allergies, weight
control, or emotional upset, etc.
EP approaches health and
healing from a different paradigm, but one that is rapidly catching on
even among medical professionals.
In a word, energy psychology offers healing. There can no longer be any question of that. Even if you ignore the testimonials and transformations documented in my film, you cannot ignore the test and study results. Veterans treated with EFT reduced their complex PTSD symptoms to non-diagnosable levels. This research will make the difference. Now it's only a matter of time before EP is standard practice in the treatment of PTSD and trauma.

Where could skeptics read about these test and study results and were they conducted by credentialed experts in the field?
Study results and more on the testing and research into EFT can be found at www.stressproject.org The Iraq Vets Stress Project is a partner and ally in our project. Dr. Dawson Church headed up the research. Viewers can hear from many other PhDs in psychology, psychiatry and medicine in my film.
Let's
move beyond American veterans for a moment, Eric. EFT has many
practitioners throughout the world. You've documented its use with
survivors in Rwanda and at a pediatric cancer ward in Mexico, among
other places. Can you tell us what you saw there?
In any of the locations around the world where I've documented the use of EP (energy psychology), what stands out is how quickly and completely trauma and PTSD, fear and anxiety are converted when the subject is open to working on their issues. Whether it's a child undergoing chemotherapy, or a genocide survivor who witnessed the death of his/her family people only improve and recover when they go through these steps - acceptance, forgiveness and a willingness to bring love into their hearts and lives. EP makes acceptance and forgiveness possible by opening doorways into the blocked energies that are keeping the negatives feelings alive.
This can sound too simple, impossible or airy-fairy to skeptics. Believe what you will. I am not a therapist and I have no bias to believe in or to promote energy psychology other than for the same reason that noted therapists and PhD researchers have for acknowledging it it works! It's really that simple, plus we now have scientifically valid research that measured and proves that the body reacts and changes as a result of energy therapy. Changes that drug therapy tries to instill, but without the affirmative parts of EP - the specifically focused wording and affirmations, it can't.
What I've tried to illustrate in OPERATION: Emotional freedom The Answer is that emotional or physical issues reside in the energetic part of the body, not in something that can be drugged, operated on, or simply talked away. It's why so many conditions fail to respond well, or fail to remain in remission through medical interventions. Acceptance of life, compassion and forgiveness for everyone and every thing that occurs, and a true willingness to see life through a loving intention are not just good spiritual practices, they turn out to be good medicine. Energy medicine and energy psychology use those affirmations and beliefs as the foundation for converting negative energy into a more balanced, or "unblocked" state. Once there, the body takes over and can self-heal, or respond better to complementary techniques to complete the job.
Young
children terrified and in pain from cancer therapy become calm,
open-minded and prepared to receive other healing forms when EFT or
other techniques access and change their energetic blocks. Rwandan teens
who carries the deaths of their family in their hearts and a hatred for
some "enemy" perpetrator cannot ever really heal from that pain and
hatred and the side effects they cause things like depression,
sleeplessness, nightmares and other physical issues, until that negative
energy is converted into acceptance and forgiveness.
What
enables EP to work is that it affects both the mind and the energetic
body to do what prayer, or touch therapy or talk therapy or medications
cannot do on their own. The combination seems to be the answer and EP
subjects can sometimes change and heal to a great extent before our
eyes. That is what OPERATION: Emotional Freedom and my other films on
Rwandan orphans and the cancer patients in Mexico documented so often a
profound emotional or physical change occurs when the energetic body is
brought into calm and balance.
That's
impressive. Let's pause here. Eric will tell us more about EFT and the
positive changes they've seen in the second half of our interview. I
hope you'll join us.
