#1 1/6/2012 Mind, body, and unexplained symptoms (Lewis Mehl-Madrona) I describe a woman with a "mystery illness" who has defied the efforts of conventional physicians to diagnose her. She has also been unsuccessful at gaining help from alternative medical practitioners. I show how inflammation is an integrative process which can affect a variety of organs and can be provoked by stress, including the stress of worrying too much. We we can change the underlying process, we can reduce it.
#2 9/4/2011 Sundance No. 2, 2011 (Lewis Mehl-Madrona) Barbara and I write this following our second sundance of the season. In this article we contemplate the idea of the sundance as an embodied metaphorical struggle in which the suffering and deprivation encountered are physical metaphors for the suffering of life. The mindset we use to embrace uncertainty matters in everyday life. We do best when we abandon the idea that we can know what is going to happen next.1 1 Comment Count
#3 12/19/2010 Hearing Voices and Seeing Visions: What to do? (Lewis Mehl-Madrona) Once upon a time, in most of the world's societies, hearing voices and seeing visions was honored and desired. I describe how to be healing.1 1 Comment Count

#5 7/12/2010 The First and Second Dart (Rick Hanson PH.D.) To borrow an expression from the Buddha, inescapable physical or mental discomfort is the "first dart" of existence. As long as you live and love, some of those darts will come your way. First darts are unpleasant to be sure. But then we add our reactions to them. These reactions are "second darts"--the ones we throw ourselves. Most of our suffering comes from second darts.

#8 10/2/2009 "You can do anything you set your mind to" Vs "Stick to your strengths" (Warren Davies) What exactly does it mean to say "You can do anything you set your mind to"? It's a tribute to the power of dedication, persistence, and time, or course. It means that even against all odds, these three pillars will support your success; all you have to do is try hard enough for long enough.
