Sebern's Bio
http://www.optimalbrain.com
I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with a primary interest in the importance of secure attachment throughout the life span. I incorporated neurofeedback into my clinical practice in 1997. The effects of brain training that I have experienced myself and have witnessed in others have had a significant impact on the way I now conceptualize personality, self, psychopathology and even free will.

Experience with neurofeedback has reinforced my view that attachment is hardwired and secured through affect regulation. Although neurofeedback appears to address brain function in many arenas, I think that its most important contribution is the regulation of affect. Most of what we suffer, whatever name or diagnosis it is given, relates to our ability to regulate affect.

I offer both psychotherapy and neurofeedback, separately and together. It has been my experience that, for most people, the two woven together offer the best and most enduring results. Neurofeedback enhances the effectiveness of psychotherapy and psychotherapy deepens and integrates the experience of neurofeedback. To date, I have integrated this technology into the treatment of people suffering from conditions as apparently varied as Asperger's, PTSD, dyslexia, dissociative disorders, anxiety, depression and attachment disorder, to great benefit.

During my tenure as the clinical director of a residential treatment center for severely disturbed adolescents, I implemented Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the first milieu use of DBT in the United States. I now have a private practice for adolescents and adults in Northampton, Massachusetts.

I speak nationally and internationally on neurofeedback, neurofeedback and psychotherapy, and on attachment and neurofeedbac
