Structure and Flow (SKU: AG-P-198)
Futurehealth Plenary Talk by Steve Barnes
From one perspective, all that there is, in any discipline, is Structure: the component aspects, the technical considerations, the vocabulary of a craft, and Flow, the ability to move these components to unconscious competance and simply dance with the currents of emotion and art. Brain surgeon, jet pilot, athlete, martial artist, lover...it doesn't matter. To define the former and learn to enter into the latter is the doorway to mastery. |

SYNCHRONY: HOW THE BRAIN CODES INFORMATION (SKU: AG-P-049)
Futurehealth Plenary Talk by Les Fehmi
Early studies on information processing in the visual system have shown that visual information is transmitted as a spatial, not a temporal, code. Information travels toward the cortex as waves of synchronous action potentials. The role of synchrony in transmission of various kinds of information will be described. The role of synchrony in coding information at the level of the nerve, and at higher levels of neural organization, is crucial for controlling attention. Learning to increase and decrease brain wave synchrony with neurofeedback provides a skill set which is crucial to attentional flexibility and well being. |

Tales of the "Fatherson": The Son's Rejection and Renewal of the Father in American Narrative (SKU: AG-P-216)
Futurehealth Plenary Talk by Al Collins
I will discuss an archetypal pattern in American fiction and film, that of the son who rebels against his father, often shaming or even killing the old man but potentially also redeeming the father and giving him new life. In Nicholas Ray's 1950s cult film classic, "Rebel without a Cause" and in Mark Twain's great novel, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" we see this archetype fully realized, but its structure can be found in most American fiction (as well as American religion, philosophy, and other aspects of culture). |

The Alarming Rise in Mental Illness Linked to Increased Drug Use: Causes and Prospective Solutions (SKU: AG-P-054)
Futurehealth Plenary Talk by Nancy White
The literature shows that psychotropic drugs worsen the conditions they are prescribed to correct by incapacitating the brain?s own neurochemical facilities. A number of acceptable non-drug treatments exist which we intuitively assume have a balancing effect on neurochemistry without being able to demonstrate how that may occur. Now, some exciting new avenues are being explored that hold promise, but the mechanisms by which they work also are unclear. Thus, a future direction of research is clear: in order to expand the potential of non-pharmocologic approaches we might better demonstrate how brainwave patterns and neurotransmitters affect each other. |

The Human Operating System (SKU: AG-P-009)
Futurehealth Plenary Talk by John Ewing
The Human Operating System can now be described in a flowchart fashion. Emotion, desire, and consciousness can be described as processes in this simple model of thought. Many spiritual systems can now be mapped into a common schema of desire energy. The utility of this approach is that we can now have a model of what it is we are adjusting with various forms of therapy and can see how or why they might work. |
